Okinawan Karate-Do

At Ocean State Okinawa-Te (Okinawa Hand) we teach karate and martial arts the way they were designed to be taught from their inception. We teach that self-defense is paramount. Ocean State Okinawa-Te (OSOT) utilizes the teachings of the original Okinawan masters, combined with contemporary self-defense techniques/tactics, to provide our students (young and older) with a well-balanced martial arts experience. The focus of our training is using practical tactics/techniques, while stressing the importance of athleticism and flexibility. The benefits of training at OSOT are learning the importance of mental and physical discipline, faster hand eye coordination and becoming stronger and more flexible. These all lead to a greater confidence and self-worth. Plus, there is no denying the simple fact that training at OSOT is INCREDIBLY FUN!!!

When you attend one our classes at OSOT, you will learn how to execute a variety of kicks (Mae Geri – front kick, Mawashi Geri – round house kick, Yoko Geri – side thrust kick). You will learn how to block/intercept punches and kicks, as well as learning how to roll and perform break falls. The first weapon our students learn to use is the Jo Staff (short staff). Students learn to use this weapon to block, strike and perform katas.

The instructors at OSOT have been training karate-do and various martial arts for decades. Students presented with this wealth of knowledge are taught with respect and kindness that all students deserve. We don’t train people to think they are tougher than everyone else. We train students to become warriors in all aspects of their lives.
